What homeowners search when they need an electrician
Average monthly searches in the US, from Google Keyword Planner on 5 November 2026. Each is a job someone will win in the map results.
| Search | Average monthly searches | What advertisers bid per click |
|---|---|---|
| electrician near me | 368,000 | $5.73 to $55.00 |
| electrical contractor | 40,500 | $4.95 to $35.37 |
| ev charger installation | 14,800 | $4.64 to $31.77 |
| emergency electrician | 12,100 | $11.30 to $66.00 |
| electrical panel upgrade | 9,900 | $4.31 to $23.85 |
Bids are Google’s top-of-page estimates. Showing in the map results for these searches costs nothing per click.
Which of these is costing you calls?
- 1
You rank in your own town and nowhere else
The suburbs you drive through every week never see your name.
- 2
Emergency calls go to whoever answers at night
When the map shows three electricians, the one with the after-hours page and the open sign gets the call.
- 3
Your best work has no page of its own
Panel upgrades, EV chargers and generators bring the biggest tickets, and they are buried on one “services” page.
- 4
Your reviews stopped a year ago
Homeowners compare the last few reviews, not the total.
Why the usual fixes don’t move the map
Electricians usually work at the customer’s address, so Google treats them as service-area businesses. Its guidelines say a business that does not serve customers at its own address should hide that address and set a service area instead, and they forbid extra profiles for towns where you have no staffed location (Google Business Profile guidelines). Many of the quick fixes sold to trades, such as a profile per town or a virtual office, break those rules and end in suspension.
The map rewards electricians who look like the obvious local choice: a profile listing every electrical service you offer, a page that answers each job a homeowner searches for, recent reviews that mention the work, and a licence number they can check. None of it is quick, and all of it keeps working once it is in place.
Which level suits your electrical business
The exact monthly deliverables are listed on local SEO pricing. Here is how they map to an electrical contractor.
| Level | Monthly | Usually fits | Where the work goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $599 | A one-van electrician in one county | A category for each electrical service, citations, every review answered, and the pages you already have tidied up |
| Growth | $1,094 | Two or more crews across a city and its suburbs | Two new pages a month, job types first and then towns, plus three to five links from local sites |
| Authority | $2,196 | Residential and commercial work across a large metro | Four in-depth pages and eight to twelve links each month, with AI search visibility work |

What electricians ask before signing
- How long before calls pick up?Profile fixes can show within weeks. New job and town pages usually take a few months to be found, which is why emergency pages go up first.
- Can you get us into towns we have no office in?Yes, through service areas on one profile and a page per town. Never through extra profiles or borrowed addresses.
- Will you track calls, not just rankings?Call tracking on Growth and Authority shows calls from search, reported next to your booked jobs.
- Do you show our licence number?Yes. Your state licence and insurance go on every page, because homeowners check them before they let an electrician into the house.
- Is SEO the same as Google Local Services Ads?No. Local Services Ads charge per lead and sit above the map. SEO earns the map and organic listings without a per-lead charge. Many electricians use both.
